The Health for Kids awards is an excellence programme that rewards best practise for projects and initiatives throughout the UK that have made a real difference to child health. The winner of each category is selected by an independent panel of expert judges.
Any current initiative or long term project that has been set up to educate and improve the health of children and young people, or facilitate a change in their attitudes and behaviour to healthy living is eligible to enter. For example, an initiative that teaches children about nutritional values of food or how to cook, an initiative that encourages regular physical activity, or learning about safety issues, or dealing with emotions, or tackling drug or alcohol misuse, or even a programme to help young people get wise about sex and relationships to help our children live happier healthier lives.
Entries are invited from nurseries, schools, colleges, voluntary organisations, clubs, sport and leisure associations, health professionals, PCT’s, community groups or individuals. Indeed any one involved in some way in the education and/or care of children between the ages of 2 and 18 years.
Entries may include current healthy initiatives which may not in themselves be unique but are high quality in terms of enhanced attitudes towards health. The results of such programmes may not yet be proven but offer sufficient promise to achieve a change in attitudes and behaviour towards a healthier lifestyle.
